What type of IP security camera do you need?
Dome
Neat, quite rugged and vandal resistant. Good indoors and outdoors. Most popular camera shape. Excellent for public spaces.
Turret
Easy to adjust angle and a little bit more robust. For indoor environments that are hard to reach.
Bullet
Easy to adjust angle. For indoor environments that are hard to reach.
PTZ (Pan, tilt & zoom)
Pan tilt and zoom, recommended within the dome camera. You can manipulate the camera remotely, zoom in on a subject or change the camera angle.
Wireless & Wirefree
Wireless cameras still need a power supply but they use WiFi to transmit signal.
Low Light & Night Vision
A more specialised camera that widens the focal length and works well in low light conditions.

What should you consider when looking for an IP security camera?
We’ve worked with many different security cameras and compiled a guide to help you figure out what camera best suits your needs.
Focal length
of the camera
This is the width of the viewing angle.
As a rule of thumb, the wider the angle, the more distorted the image is. For most situations we recommend a 79° camera.
Focal length: 2.8mm
Horizontal field of view: 102°
Focal length: 4mm
Horizontal field of view: 79°
Focal length: 6mm
Horizontal field of view: 50°
Focal length: 8mm
Horizontal field of view: 40°

Choose between a 2MP or a 4MP IP security camera
The greater the megapixel (MP), the sharper the image, but with a higher MP there is also a larger amount of storage required. If the subjects are moving the extra MP will help. However, most customers find the 2MP to be just fine.
Technical requirements
Hard drive
Typically the hard drive stores 1TB and 4TB. The graph allows you to work out what size of hard drive you require. The frames per second required depends on how fast moving the traffic is.
Switches and Routers
Capacity: The system may fit onto your existing network or can be wired separately onto different switches and even broadband connections.
